For the second time in three games, one player on the opposing team outscored the entire Ram team in girls basketball. Last Friday it was Maggie Phipps of the 12th-rated North Polk Comets. On Tuesday it was Lexy Koudelka of the seventh-rated Nevada Cubs.
The Rams scored 21 points in their loss against the Cubs in Nevada. Koudelka scored 21 points during less than three-quarters of the game.
The Rams were behind 30-9 at halftime en route to a final score of 45-21.
Sophomore Bailey Cunningham led the Rams in scoring with nine points. Laurin Lyons scored five points before fouling out of the game. Kassie Lamoureux scored three points and Sam Hardaway and Caytlyn Adamson scored two each.
Lyons and Onica Delp had seven rebounds each.
Turnovers continue to be a problem when the Rams face ranked teams. They had 25 turnovers against Nevada and shot at just 18 percent from the floor.
The loss was the Rams’ sixth consecutive loss and leaves them 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The Cubs are leading in the conference with a 6-0 record, 8-1 overall.
The Rams face one more ranked team before the Christmas break. They travel to Boone Thursday to play the 4A ninth-rated Toreadors.
